That's a wrap
Publish Date: May 11, 2010
This week was fun.
This week was trying.
This week was emotional.
This week is OVER!
This entire week, I’ve been “watermelon boy” for lack of better words. You can blame my sloppy word usage on exhaustion from being in front of cameras, lights and working in heat (haha, not that kind of heat).
However, the Go Texan Watermelon Campaign has just commenced and I’m more than ecstatic to be their spokesperson; yet another thing to add to my résumé.
Our last shoot took place at my house, outside in my backyard. The air was blowing, the wind was crisp and the sun was fading fast. As expected, we were a few hours late … ok, we were 4 hours late and literally chasing sunlight.
After the Cevallos Brothers got everything in place, and I was ready to go, my neighbors decided to mow the lawn. Of course … why wouldn’t they? All I wanted to do was finish so I could eat and mingle, and once again it seemed so far away.
One of the girls on the set nicely ran across the street to ask politely to stop mowing and because of her determination, she succeeded. Within an hour, we were done.
Hearing Gibby Cevallos say, “That’s a wrap!” was like hearing I won the lottery.
The night began and ended with incredible conversations with friends who truly and ultimately care about my success and the success of others. We ate, talked, laughed, took shots and partied till 3 a.m.
My week ended on a high note.
Now, I sleep.
Well, not so fast …
As I look towards the 2011 campaign I'm thinking I’m gonna need a watermelon drink … or two … or three … Here I come 2011!
Sparkling Watermelon Sangria
4 cups cubed Texas watermelon
1/4 cup peach schnapps
1 lime, halved and thinly sliced
1 bottle Cava, chilled
Place the watermelon in a blender and purée. Mix with the peach schnapps and sliced limes in a pitcher and refrigerate overnight.
The next day combine with Cava and serve over ice…….immediately.
